“It’s dangerous out here at night,” Remus wet his lips, suddenly aware of how dry they were, “and we’re quite far from the nearest town.”
The man in front of him continued to gaze up at him, eyes twinkling with a dangerous look, seeming to dare him to ask risky questions, to probe and let curiosity kill the cat. “What’s your name?” he asked, feigning ignorance to Remus’ concern.
“Remus.” He answered without a second thought to who he was telling this to, something about the other man made him want to lay himself out bare, secret’s spilling out into the night air, all the good and the ugly. Something about the other man was dangerous but Remus felt the blood in his veins ignite at the thought.
“Remus,” the man with eyes like the moon whispered, “I’m Sirius.”

"You will not believe this, Lily" Sirius gushed immediately. "People here just expect for you to waiter their drink over to them. Like it's some grand restaurant or something. I mean, look at that dude there!" (He pointed at Remus.) "Called out his name twice and he still didn't seem to get the message. I had to walk over to give him his drink. He didn't even apologise!"
Lily stared at him with wide eyes.
"What?" Sirius asked.
"Sirius, Remus is deaf" Lily whispered.
"What?" Sirius asked.
"He can't hear" she explained.
"Yeah, I know what deaf- ooh" Sirius realised. "I fucked up, big time."

Sirius meets Remus in a pretty embarrasing situation, and quickly realises he wants to make it better. Maybe he even goes over the top, but he doesn't mind, and neither does Remus.

The four-by-four heaves its way down long, twisting lanes, little more than dirt tracks scuffed into the surrounding fields and hemmed in by serpentine walls of flat, grey stone. They truly are in the middle of nowhere: the countryside rushes past, all rolling green hills and vast, endless skies, and it's odious. Sirius wants to murder James with his bare hands.
Sirius and James accidentally find themselves on a Yorkshire farm during lambing season. The farmer’s son thinks that’s a bit annoying, actually.

Sirius jumped, looking up from the letter in his hands and scowling when he saw Regulus standing next to his chair. “Reg,” he said distastefully. "I expect you know what this is all about, then?" He held up the howler. “Been dobbing on me to mummy, have you?"
“No.” For once, Regulus wasn’t wearing the displeased sneer that he normally adopted any time he was forced to speak to Sirius. Instead he looked pale and frightened, and he glanced around anxiously before speaking again in a hushed voice. “I didn’t have anything to do with this. But you’re about to be in really big trouble, Sirius.”
Sirius felt his annoyance fade, cold dread taking its place. “...What kind of trouble?”
Regulus gulped. “... I tried to reason with Mum,” he whispered. “I tried to tell her to wait ‘till you got home to talk to you about it, but she’s just so livid-”
“Regulus, what kind of trouble?” Sirius repeated, his rapidly-growing panic causing his voice to raise.
"Over holiday break, they had Kreacher search your room.” Sirius froze, feeling all of the colour drain from his face. Oh, Godric, no.

Sirius was hurt, but he still wanted to fix things for Remus. He understood why he couldn’t be a part of the resolution himself, but he could still help. He would make Remus forget he ever existed, that way Remus would be happy again.
It was easy, Sirius made his plan in the span of an hour. He just needed to avoid being in the places Remus enjoyed, sit at the back to avoid making him uncomfortable in classes, avoid mealtimes, and get him to make new friends. Maybe even a new boyfriend.
