He bit into the burger and considered that he never used to be the kind of person who would eat something if he didn't need it, just because it tasted good, but that had clearly changed.
He wasn't hungry, but he wanted to eat, so he did.
And Ronan could barely keep his eyes on the road. Adam didn't know what was so distracting about just watching him eat, but the more time he spent running similar experiments, the more Adam was convinced that Ronan liked it.

Especially when said desired-bangee is not even your roommate most of the time, just some dude who has class with you and was assigned to the second queen bed in your hotel room for this required class trip?

Ronan has always known that Adam Parrish will be the death of him. It didn’t happen when he thought it might, though- as flammable teenagers, when they were too interested in fire and revenge and living fast. Instead, it’s late twenties, still life in domestic. They’re married and stupidly happy and now Ronan’s uniform shirt buttons are straining.

Ronan's a firefighter, and Adam's a prep school English teacher. Ronan's a little insecure about his recent weight gain, but he also kind of wants to know how it'd feel to gain even more, and for Adam to help. (Adam wants to help, for the record.)

Summary
Despite Adam's accusations, Ronan was not happy that Harvard had closed its doors for the semester. No, because being happy about Harvard's closure would imply he was happy about the circumstances that had forced it, and being happy about a goddamn global pandemic was sheer callous lunacy, he and Adam were in agreement about that. Even if said pandemic was to thank for Adam's presence in the kitchen of the Barns, and the promise of his presence for months to come, Ronan wasn't happy about it.
“Why are you grinning like that, then?” Adam said.
- i.e. Ronan and Adam quarantine at the Barns, and Adam gets hella fat.
