pre-canon ... harry du bois and jean vicquemare are partners. they're doing hardcore bdsm, which is really just a dangerous and unhealthy method of harry using jean for self harm. harry goads jean into hurting him (more than jean already wants to), jean feels guilty, harry takes advantage of the guilt, cycle repeats.
harry's apartment is untouched by this. jean's, however, reeks of rot. depression gets in the way of proper cleaning. harry never helps. blood seeps into the bed, the sofa, the floor.
jean finds he's probably seen more blood and borderline torture in his own home than on the job. he realizes he can no longer recognize the smell of rot... rather, he can't smell it at all. -

Of course these weren't dates. Kim was just being efficient, or requesting assistance when needed, or helping Harry reacquaint himself with certain basic aspects of human existence. Dates were purposefully planned affairs that involved things like flowers, a fancy meal, maybe a kiss goodnight—and perhaps most importantly—an understanding from both parties that they were on a date.
