Summary
Rocky swayed slightly, causing his Xenonite ball to roll backwards a couple inches.
“Yes, shame. Rocky feel shame.”
“Why? What could you feel ashamed about?”
Rocky appeared to be fighting a battle within himself. Three of his five claws began fidgeting and clicking together. Grace has never seen him like this before. He started to feel uneasy.
“I… I like when you hum.”
or, Rocky admits a secret and Grace happily fills his request

Summary
Grace hums to himself and turns off the tap. He plunges the sponge into the warm water and practically moans at the sensation. Warmth.
He’s about to start removing his sweater and pants when he remembers Rocky was still in the room with him. It’s unlike him to linger this long.
“Uh, some privacy so I can bathe?”
“Rocky can stay, question?” Rocky thrums, lifting his carapace in what Grace knows as a “please?” gesture.
or, Rocky watches Grace take a sponge bath and gets an idea.

“Buck… I’m sorry. Bobby just told us the water heater went out again. It should be fixed by our next shift, but not anytime today,” Eddie informs him, his voice heavy with pity.
Turning off the facet and stepping out of the stall with a towel, Buck gives him a defeated look.
“It’s that rock, Eddie. It’s that damn rock.”
or, Buck is convinced that he's cursed again. Eddie helps him realize that maybe not all curses are bad.

“Do we want to talk about this before or after?” Buck asks, voice rough and low. He’s tilting his head to the side a little, begging for Eddie’s attention.
Eddie turns his eyes to peer down at him. Buck is a view Eddie never wants to look away from. By “this” Eddie assumes Buck is asking to talk about what love means to each other. Eddie has a pretty good idea they both already know.
“After.”
Buck grabs a fistful of Eddie’s shirt and pulls him down to connect their lips again. Merlot mingles together on their tongues, velvety and rich.
or, Eddie visits a priest and has some self-reflection.

Summary
Helping Eddie fix up this haunted house and make the space ready for Christopher is similar to breathing for Buck. There wasn’t a second thought or an ounce of hesitation.
That’s love, Buck thinks suddenly. He’s so taken aback, he‘s made himself speechless, simply staring at Eddie with wide eyes.
or, Buck visits Eddie in El Paso to help him remodel his house.

Summary
“Did you know that kissing is good for you?”
Buck asks the question out of absolutely nowhere, and Eddie blinks as he tries to process the words. To be fair, it’s barely seven in the morning — on their day off, after Eddie’s night on the couch — and he’s yet to have the coffee that typically kicks his brain into action.
Also, what?
“Buck,” he says, rubbing at his eyes. “What?”
Or: Eddie and Buck start platonically kissing.

Summary
Raphael’s trying his best not to be nosy, but his eyes land on Eddie’s screen anyway, and he huffs out a quiet laugh. “My wife sends me stuff like that, too. I don’t know where she finds it.”
“If she’s anything like Buck, she’s got the oddity section on AP News bookmarked.”
Eddie’s card makes a soft little beep as he taps it against the machine, and Raphael smiles at him as he tears the receipt off and hands it over. “How long have y’all been together?”
...or, everyone in El Paso has lost their minds.

Summary
“My friend, my…. Eddie’s like that. He’s a single parent, too. Big worrier. He nests. Uh,” Buck dips his head down. “Loves his kid more than anything. That’s where he’s coming from, now. Picking up his son, Christopher.”
“Your Diaz boys,” she clarifies, a warm look in her eyes, and Buck feels his cheeks heat up.
“Yeah.”
His Diaz boys, coming home. Back to 4995 South Bedford Street, the house with an orange tree in front of it and a lazy black cat that skulks in the backyard for treats and sunflowers in the front windows and Buck’s heart buried deep in the foundations.
What makes a house a home?
Four walls and a roof.
Eddie. Chris.
***
Eddie and Chris finally come back to Los Angeles. Buck has some realizations, and confessions, to make. Good thing Eddie's got some of his own to share, too.

Summary
As they stumble through the bedroom door and the man pulls Buck on top of him, Buck’s too aware that this is Eddie’s bedroom. Eddie exists all over it, in the patchwork walls and at the foot of the bed, in the corner by the dresser, opening the window in the summertime. Instead, he welcomes the darkened room, relying on errant moonlight to highlight the outlines of the furniture, and nothing else.
If he keeps the lights off it’s just a room. He can pretend it’s anywhere. This could be his old loft, or an illicit hotel rendezvous rather than the home he carved for himself in his best friend’s house like a desperate, abandoned animal.
If he keeps the lights off, he can’t see Eddie in each corner of the room.Or, Buck tries to make friends, ends up sleeping with them, and may or may not see Eddie each time he does it.
