Carlos takes a step towards him, reaching out deftly, hesitantly, to wipe the blood from his face. It smears across his thumb, and TK wants to apologise for it - for staining Carlos’ pretty white rug red - but he bites his tongue.
“How,” Carlos whispers, “did you end up like this?”
TK bites down harder. He can feel something burning under his skin, like when his senses spike and make his hair stand on end; only, more poignant. More desperate. He senses his own longing, there every time he sees Carlos but louder now as his heart screams to be honest with him. He looks away, instead, shakes his head, mutters something about it being a stupid story, that he’d never believe him, anyway. And Carlos laughs.
“Don’t tell me you were playing superhero.”

One second, TK is fighting him off. Pushing him back. Gaining the upper hand. The next, the man is shifting his footing. He knocks his balance. TK stumbles. And he strikes. His movements before had been clumsy, but his aim is precise.
The blade catches TK in the stomach.
It’s a swift entry, and a swift exit as the man pulls the blade back out. TK staggers, a baby deer in headlights as he staggers and he falls, crumpling to the floor like a marionette cut loose from its strings.
He makes a choked sound, but he doesn’t scream.
