The past tense isn't a great sign. Wayne nods to the front door. “Well, why don't you come inside?”
Steve blinks, as if he’d been expecting a different reply. He glances between Wayne and the steps as if he’s afraid of giving the wrong answer. “It’s not a trick question, Harrington.”

Summary
After an altercation with his dad, Steve hides away in the pantry in his kitchen and calls for help on the walkie-talkie. Luckily, Eddie is awake and comes to the rescue, stealing Steve away to stay at the Munsons’ until it’s safe for Steve to go back. Steve hates when either of his parents come home to visit, especially when it’s his dad. It feels ridiculous to say but Steve thinks he’d rather face another Demogorgon.
A Demogorgon will smell blood in the water and kill on sight, but Mr. Harrington has a habit of dragging it out and making sure his prey knows they’re bleeding. The monsters under the bed are nothing compared to the monsters down the hall, Steve’s an expert. He’s known for a long time now how messed up it all is, he knows he needs out, needs help, but it feels impossibly hard. It’s normal for him and he’s dealt with it this long, he just needs to tough it out until he can afford his own place.
It doesn’t occur to Steve that he has a plethora of people willing to fight monsters at his side, whether the monsters are from the Upside Down or his own home. With the help of his monster hunting crew, Steve escapes his parents and learns what love is really supposed to be.

Eddie bites on his bottom lip, adjusting them so Steve’s legs are now wrapped around his waist. He can smell the copper scent coming from his vagina, as well as the insistent pump of his mate’s pheromones. “You know I have a theory,” he says.
Steve just looks up at him, his doe eyes sad in pain and titled downward like a sad puppy. He hums, telling Eddie to tell him the theory without actually telling him.
“You know how sex relieves heat? Well…what if it helps relieve your period, too?”

There’s a bundle of squawks and screams, outbursts of panic and anger, and it’s only when Hopper falls forwards to take Steve up into a slightly rough, protective hold, does he realize that two of those shots have lodged themselves in his own flesh and bone. Everything is swirling around him, like that one painting by Van Gough Nancy showed him years ago. He can somewhat make out a figure, talking to him, clutching at his shoulders. But Steve is drowning, Steve is drowning and nothing else matters besides his baby brother is dead, and it's Steve's fault because if Steve was faster, if Steve had tried harder, he could've stopped it. It could've been him, it should've been him.
