She shifted her weight and glanced toward the house before hesitantly looking back at him. “The house has been on the market for years,” she said carefully. “I couldn’t tell you why the last owner left, but it appears the house has a high turnover rate.” Her fingers tightened slightly around the clipboard tucked against her side. “Once someone moves in, they don’t stay for very long.”
OR: On the verge of losing his apartment, Xie Lian jumps at the opportunity to purchase a beautiful old Victorian home for a fraction of what it’s worth. After a series of strange occurrences, Xie Lian begins researching the property's history. He quickly discovers that one name keeps appearing: Hua Cheng. Mo Ran tries to win over the new librarian at his university through his cooking. It goes well, up until someone else takes a page out of his book and starts to bring Chu Wanning food too.
Much to Mo Ran’s satisfaction, Chu Wanning starts with his food first. Mo Ran leans back in his chair and folds his arms over his chest, watching as Chu Wanning delicately vacuums the entire thermos worth of noodles.
“Was it good?” Mo Ran asks and Chu Wanning nods. The smallest smile tugs at the corner of his lips and Mo Ran almost sends himself over the moon when Chu Wanning says, “You’re a talented cook.”
The mood is quickly punctured by Chu Wanning pushing the cursed dish towards Mo Ran mere moments later.
“Have some,” he says, nodding towards Mo Ran's direct competition. “They’re not terrible.”
Mo Ran can’t help it. He looks at the container like it’s his mortal enemy.

Xie Lian had been so lost in these new touches that he’d nearly forgotten there was more to this event. He sucks in a sharp breath and glances up at Feng Xin. His eyes are warm and dark, but the thirst is undeniable. If he were to turn around, he’s certain it would be easy enough to spot in Mu Qing as well. Certainly, it’s also present in him—in the very pit of his stomach, slowly unfurling its fingers to squeeze at his lungs.
“Yes. I want it,” he whimpers.
