“Marion, you ok?” And the words come out too rushed, too frantic, but it’s immediately drowned out by Marion’s muttering. Battle instinct has him trying to shush him, fear of giving away his position overriding the need to comfort. He doesn’t succeed anyway, Marion’s hands making juddering aborted motions against the floor, Sean, anything they can reach.
It grows, the muttering, into something worse, even more frantic, til it reaches a yell.
“There’s nothing wrong with me!”
