Bren Ermendrud should be at Master Ikithon’s summer home, finishing up his Volstrucker training. Instead, he’s spending a few weeks back at the Soltryce Academy with Astrid and Eadwulf, keeping up the illusion that the Volstrucker program does not exist.

It wouldn’t be like the other times. They could see each other now. Was it acceptable for them to do such things in the light, no matter how dim? When they weren’t doing it to survive?"

When the trio is locked up in a chilly cell during "training", they strip and cuddle to conserve body heat. It's normal to do it when they need to survive, but what will they do when Astrid asks them to do the same for her after a bad day?
