Not that that’s particularly unusual but when he’s like this... it feels like taking advantage of his loyalty. He’s slowly starting to thaw, to relax in Xie Lian’s presence again, but there’s an undercurrent of potent self-loathing that Xie Lian feels powerless to- well, not fix, but to help, to heal.
He really wants Hua Cheng to stop beating himself up about it but can’t deny that he also really wants to get dicked down again.]
Or: Hua Cheng finds out about the time Xie Lian was buried alive and is in shambles over it. Xie Lian gets desperate enough to ask Pei Ming for help in the art of seduction.

And knowing how oblivious he was, he surely hadn’t thought of the implications of such a statement. Still, she covered her cheeks instinctively, willing her blush to be less noticeable. Her knight swallowed, the knot of his throat bobbing. Her eyes flickered across him and perhaps he was right that she shouldn’t have told him to sit on her bed. He was docile, still tense, the veins in his hands flexing. His tunic was loose on him, deceptively covering corded muscle and his trousers- his trousers were taut around a protruding tent. Oh.

The information hits Tide like a sledgehammer to a chipboard wall- he knows now he never stood a chance. He tries to tell himself that Wavelength is the worst kind of man, selfish and uncaring, but all he can think of is the fact that Wavelength chose- is still choosing- to let Tide live every time, choosing Tide over himself.
“Do you?” Tide asks, voice shaky.
“Do I what?” Wavelength spits, modulator and mask unable to hide the tremor in his voice.
“Hate me.”
OR
Mark and Tide make out in an alleyway (I recommend reading A False Start before this, it's not 100% necessary though).

It’s…” she trails off, her words failing her, which is infuriating because she’s a scholar, she’s good at words. “It’s a lot,” she finishes awkwardly, for lack of anything better to say.
