But September has always been a little difficult. May gets more careful with him around this time of year. Peter gets tired. Sometimes he has trouble sleeping.

Or: Peter is finally safe enough to process what Skip Westcott did to him. He doesn't like that. At all.

Summary
Peter Parker lost five years in what felt like seconds. When he came back, the world had changed, the people he loved had built lives without him, and Peter learned to adjust rather than ask whether the place he once had was still waiting for him.
Then Tony Stark’s daughter doesn’t come home.
Peter does. Injured, covered in her blood, and still trying to explain how hard he fought to save her.
“You should have waited for backup.”
“You were responsible for her.”
“She was six, Peter.”
“You should have been more careful.”And when Bruce finally says, “He nearly died too,” Tony looks at the boy he once tore the universe apart to bring back and answers with words Peter never expected from the man he had come to love like a father.
“But he didn’t.”
Suddenly, Peter is no longer the kid they almost lost. He is the one who survived when Tony’s daughter didn’t—and for the first time, he wonders if surviving is something he should be sorry for.
