Aventurine barks out a crude laugh, all sorts of grating and wrong even to his own ears, “And what do you know about wanting, Ratio? This want– it’s a crippling disease; it has created a great monstrosity in me. I’ve lived in its shadow for years, waiting for the day this madness will consume me– and maybe that day is upon me already. Maybe I have used up all my luck.”
“If you think of such a desire as fatal, then I am already a dying man,” Ratio murmurs, voice thick with resolve, as the doctor’s thumb traces the outline of his cheekbone with a tenderness he’s wholly undeserving of, “If this want were indeed as deadly as you claim it to be, then perhaps I am on the verge of breathing my last, and getting to have you like this will be the final nail in the coffin.”
Following the events of Penacony, the IPC sends both Aventurine and Ratio on a manhunt to dig out a drug kingpin responsible for creating and peddling a drug that preys on a person's specific desires.
Aventurine has the foresight to admit that that's going to be a big problem.

His vision tunnels and his mouth begins to water. Momentarily, he is overcome by a sudden insanity. Just a taste, one single lick of that golden ichor — when was the last time he’d indulged? Not measly animal blood, but human?
The fact that it is Ratio offering, of all people, does not help.
Where Aventurine discovers his mind is sharper than his fangs, and blood grants clarity to more than just his hunger.

Summary
When Aventurine returns from the Nihility, Ratio expects Aventurine to reject him after he subtly confesses his feelings. However, he's surprised to find that Aventurine returned with a new lease on life. Aventurine tells Ratio that he realized he wants to do more than survive, but it's something that will take time to learn. Ratio promised to wait, no matter how long it took.
Three years later, Aventurine is finally ready to tell the good doctor how he feels, but after waiting for so long, he's unsure whether Ratio still wants him. Aventurine decides to take Ratio on one last mission together before deciding their fates. It's an easy mission, no gambles required, or at least that's what he thought when he first invited Ratio. How will the two fragile lovers fare when their mission goes awry, and Aventurine is cursed to offer his body and mind to the Family? How will Ratio find a way to rid Aventurine of this curse while escaping the hostile outskirt planet they are stuck on? Will this finally be the push they need to get together, or will it be the thing that finally tears them apart?

For Veritas Ratio, the struggle to suppress his cravings during a trip to a distant planet is nothing less than burdensome. Overwhelmed by an insatiable hunger for blood and his long-suppressed desires, he finds himself at his limit when Aventurine proposes an experiment to both sate Ratios appetite and satisfy Aventurine’s curiosity.

Ratio doesn’t seem fully convinced. “So you say,” he mutters, taking the plushie in his hands to inspect it more closely. “What a buffoonery.”
Ratio pinches the puppet’s cheeks, flapping its coat and inspecting its seams. Then, with the precision of a researcher studying their specimen, he sticks a finger inside.
Heat blooms across Aventurine’s face. He slaps both hands over his ass, and smothers an unwanted moan by biting his lips. He's so fucked.
