Bai Hehuai cleared her throat, shifted her shoulders back, and gave Su Muyu a purposeful glance as if to say: the following is an act. Then she turned her gaze upon Su Changhe and pointed at him accusatorily.
“I'll kill you for what you've done,” she said menacingly.
Su Changhe started laughing when she landed on top of him, pinning one of his legs down with her calf, knee digging into his hip. She slid a dagger out of the sheath at his side, gleeful that he let her but careful to stay in character, and held it to his throat. Su Muyu made an indrawn hiss, as if watching students poorly perform something dangerous, but didn't stop them.

Today starts just horribly, despite Zhuo Yichen's eight hours of sleep. It is pleasantly light outside when Zhuo Yichen wakes. The sun is shining down brightly, valiantly trying to warm the fresh snow in a way that spells 'icy' rather than 'spring'. For a moment he closes his eyes, hoping in vain that this is just a bad dream. When he opens his eyes again the sun is still brightly announcing his tardiness to the world, and neither of his spouses has appeared beside him. Zhuo Yichen grabs his phone from the headboard and sees the worst: he is, in fact, running late.

Here was his husband returned to him.
For just a moment, he let himself believe that everything was normal. That they were still those men who had loved each other without hesitation. Lestat stood in the doorway, dressed in his old silk pajamas, the champagne fabric catching the early light. His loose hair curled at his jaw, still slightly puffy from sleep, and Louis could almost forget everything for the sake of this one perfect moment.
But memory had a cruel way of lingering.
