Taira sniffled, brows furrowed as it all came back to him at once, “I hated the way seagulls would snicker, not as much as I’d hated the way others would”

“I hated how dirty beaches were,” Taira’s voice finally cracked,” And I hated the germs, I hated the sand, I hated the water, the cold, disgusting water, much too cold, as it clung to your body. I hated how disgusting the beach made me feel”

Making choices after the war was supposed to be the easy part. Her future decided and neatly packaged based on what everyone else wanted for her, what she should want, too.
But Katara’s destiny had a funny way of being exactly what she wanted to run from.

To commemorate the end of the Hundred Years' War and to ensure nothing like that ever happens again, the Four Nations agree to hold a Summit every year. Two weeks of political talks, cultural immersion and utter harmony. As Fire Lord, Zuko is in charge of hosting the first, set in the Fire Nation capital. As war-heroes, Katara, Sokka, Toph, Suki and of course Aang are among the guests.
However, as Katara finds herself yearning for a life beyond that of the Avatar's faithful companion, it appears that politics will not be the only turbulent waters they have to navigate.

Katara storms off in a huff. She’s not going to put up with such undignified behavior.
Okay, fine, so Zuko was hot. Who cares? Not Katara. She certainly didn’t think that the healing cut across his face made him look dashing. That was some romance novel nonsense, and Katara only read those in secret. She certainly would never allow herself to think such things.
High School AU: Katara is a gifted student obsessed with track and field. Then Zuko shows up to mess up all her best-laid plans with his stupid, hot, annoying self.
