Summary
Essek meets up with Reani. The Lightbringer is working very very hard to take a softer and more nuanced approach to the obliteration of all evil. It’s hard not seeing the world in black and white. But the good news is community service is excellent restitution. It would suck, after all, to stab hot boi Essek to death after their mutual friends literally sent him to hang out with her.
Reani and Essek fight crime. (Whether Essek likes it or not.)

He takes a sip of his coffee, trying to remain calm but curiosity has always been a wizard's worst trait.
Essek takes out the note and his heart is pounding in his chest as he reads his name in the familiar handwriting. But as he unfolds it, he finds the paper blank. He can't help but smile before dispelling the note and a few seconds later, the words appear.
"My friends almost laughed at me when they saw that the paper was blank, but I had a feeling you would find a way to keep things interesting.
How about "Thelyss' Defy Gravity "? Seems kind of appropriate for the spell. Or maybe you want it to be more personal like "Essek's Amazing Hovering Incantation". I've heard that branding your spells with your name makes you seem more professional and cooler.
I'll keep the favor in mind. You never know when you're going to need the help of a talented mage..."

“Home sweet home!” Jester sang, kicking her prismatic boots together in an excited skip, a stark contrast to all the students saying their goodbyes to tearful mothers and peacocking fathers holding back emotion with firm handshakes. Once inside, Beau turned to Caleb extending her own hand in a mocking performance.
“Ah yes young Timmy, learn from the patriarchy as I did. Make sure to bottle up all your feelings so that one day you’ll turn into a nightmare of a person.” She deepened her voice and placed the index finger of her free hand over her upper lip as a spontaneous mustache. “Like dude, hug your kid. It’s fine!” He took her hand to return the shake, laughing despite himself as they continued pushing through the cramped hallways to retrieve his keys from front desk.
“Well, das ist meins. Have you two already found your room?” At Jester’s excited nod, he turned once more to face the door and pushed into the ground floor dormitory, silently pleading with any deity that would listen for someone at least a little normal.

All of the Nein felt it at once, a sense of all-encompassing, unbridled terror. They all glanced around at each other, trying to discern which of them the feeling was originating from.
"Caleb!" Essek. It was Essek.
As the Nein collectively turned toward their drow companion, they saw exactly why he was so afraid.
Lucien's scimitars, which he had produced from seemingly nowhere, were both thrust through Caleb's chest. Caleb hung limply from the blades that held him suspended several inches off of the ground, seemingly just barely clinging to consciousness.
