Title: Six Teens Vanish, California 1989In the summer of 1989, six friends from the Bay Area disappeared during a post-graduation road trip down the coast. Their van was found at dawn on a desolate stretch of highway: doors open, engine cold, belongings scattered. No tracks, no signs of struggle.
The strange part? It was parked beside a steel bridge that doesn’t appear on any map. Locals later called it Bridge 491, but CalTrans records show nothing built there. Some truckers still swear that, on foggy nights, radios pick up faint music near that stretch, like an old song dragging through static.
The case was closed as a runaway incident, but no one ever found them. To this day, no one knows what happened to them.

Benson works his hand over his own face, fingers shaking as they smooth his mustache down. “I– if you get in that car, it’s– we’ll have to keep running,” he says hoarsely. “They’re gonna keep looking for me.”
“For us.” Randy nods, his heart in his throat. He doesn’t think he’s ever felt the wind so keenly against his skin, doesn’t think the wet pavement has ever smelled so sweet, doesn’t think Benson’s eyes have ever been so blue. Everything feels electric, like the air before a thunderstorm. “I know. I don’t care. I don’t want to stay in this town any longer, anyway.”
“You mean it?”
“Yeah.” He’s never meant anything before, he thinks. He means this.
Benson starts to smile, then, wild and sharp. “Alright. Let’s get out of here.”

The cloth in his hand slid across the mottled, sun-bleached top of the table closest to the window as clattering sounds resounded from the kitchen, almost deafened by a gaggle of teenagers who were throwing fries at each other. Something had been dropped back there, probably a spatula, and for a moment Benson retreated from the confines of the kitchen and approached Donnie at the till. His face was red and angry. He clearly wasn’t as enthused about not being at home as Randy was.
Benson’s eyes rose momentarily. He looked tired, and more importantly, directly at Randy as the cloth stopped moving on the table and all of the breath that had been inside of Randy’s body suddenly vacated that space.
