Phil had always known he was different, but he didn’t know exactly why. He thought that maybe it was because he was an avian. When he was around twelve years old his wings grew in, which scared some of the other children, so for years, he thought that was why he felt so weird. Whenever he looked at himself in the mirror, he always blamed the disgust he felt about his body on his wings. Because that's what it had to be, right? That was why he felt so wrong throughout puberty, that's why he hated everything about how he looked, that's why he hated how his body moved, why he hated his body language. His wings were what he blamed all of his self-hatred on for the ten years before he turned twenty-two, which was the year he started to realize the truth.
