Summary
“It’s just that—I died,” Buck continues, voice unsteady enough that Eddie wonders if this is the first time he’s acknowledged that out loud. “I died, and there’s so much more. There’s so much more I want to do, things I don’t even know I want to do yet, and I almost had the chance to have and live them taken away. I don’t want to die and regret missing out on everything else, Eddie.”
“So let’s make a list,” Eddie says. “Let’s do them.”
or, a bucket list that’s really about buck needing to make a change and an eddie who’s ready to do anything to see him fall in love with life again. it takes some crossing off for eddie to realise—the thing at the top of the list in his own heart? it’s been right here all along

Summary
“We’re leaving,” Buck declared.
“In an Uber, I hope,” Ravi said, analysing the pair of them with a hint of amusement.
“Oh, yeah.” Buck leaned forward, placing his hands flat against the table to deliver his very important details to the group. “We’re leaving in an Uber and going back to my place because I really wanna keep kissing Eddie. He’s a really good kisser. Like… really good.”
Hen, Chim, and Ravi’s jaws fell to the floor.
“Okay, champ. To the Uber!” Eddie said cheerfully, grabbing the back of Buck’s shirt and yanking him away before any questions could ensue.
Or; Buck and Eddie drunkenly make out at the club and all the way to Buck's house.

Summary
“My first concert was Hootie and the Blowfish,” Chim offers.
Buck guffaws. “Who and the who? That can’t be a real band name.”
“Uncultured swine,” Chimney retorts. “They were one of the best bands of the 90s, you plebeian.”
“You’re definitely messing with me,” Buck insists. There’s just no way that’s a real band.
“What was your first concert, Cap?” Hen pivots.
Bobby smiles at the question, and Buck gives up on making faces at Chimney and directs his attention toward his captain. Bobby’s face so rarely looks like that, and another piece of Cap lore is always compelling. “Bruce Springsteen in 1980, on The River tour. What a show,” he says wistfully.
Springsteen rings a bell for Buck. “Oh, I know him! I love Bruce Springsteen,” he agrees, and Hen and Chimney both raise an eyebrow at him. Okay, so maybe he’s exaggerating, but it’s worth it when Bobby grins at him. He’ll look it up later—he’s pretty sure he’s heard of him before.
“The kid does have some taste after all,” he teases, and Buck ducks his head, grinning.

Summary
He turned out fine.
Eddie always says that. I turned out fine, I'm okay, it was just how things were. And he's right — Eddie Diaz is the most okay person Buck has ever met, which is either a miracle or an indictment of everything that tried to make him otherwise.
But okay isn't the same as having had everything you deserved.
And somewhere between the clink and the sip and the kiss, between Eddie's hand warm on his leg and the low hum of the evening settling around them, Buck makes a decision that he doesn't announce. Doesn't even hint at.
He's going to fix it.
Not the whole thing; he can't fix Ramon and Helena and every Saturday morning that came and went without X-Men and too-sweet cereal and four hours of nothing. He can't give Eddie back what wasn't given to him.
But he can give him this Saturday. And maybe the one after that.
Or,
Eddie never watched Saturday Morning Cartoons growing up. Buck changes that.

Summary
Eddie was sprawled back on the couch like he’d been built for it, one ankle crossed over the other, remote loose in his hand. The TV murmured on low volume—some mindless home-renovation show where a perky couple argued about backsplash tile like it was life or death. Eddie wasn’t really watching, not in the way he watched a game or a movie he cared about. This was background noise, a steady, harmless kind of chaos.

"Yes, sweetheart. Sorry, where were we?"
Eddie helps Phoebe with a few more math problems until he can hear her dad in the background.
"Did you call 911 again, Pheebo? What am I gonna do with you, huh?" Eddie hears what it sounds like the man doing a raspberry and Phoebe giggling before some static and then a gravelly, tired voice comes on the line. "Sorry, she does this—"

Summary
Eddie’s never seen Buck this way, chained up by a body that won’t do as he says. He’s still caressing his fingers through Buck’s hair and across his scalp; feels dampness along the surface of his forehead, takes in the flush of his cheeks and nose, the soft surrender of his slightly open mouth. There’s no real danger present, and Buck will feel fine in a few hours, but right now--right now, he is beautiful and asthenic, and Eddie can’t help but feel privileged.
(You need to settle down a little. or: Eddie poisons Buck, and other acts of radical devotion.)

Summary
He stepped closer and put it on Buck’s head.
It was a stupid prop. A cheap hat from a basket on the sidewalk.
And it still did something violent to Eddie’s ability to form coherent thoughts.
Buck went still while Eddie adjusted the brim—small, careful movements, because Eddie couldn’t help it. Because if he was going to do this, he was going to do it right.
Buck tipped his chin up slightly.
Their eyes met under the brim.

Summary
Thinking of strong arms embracing him from behind. Amber eyes and a soft strand of hair falling over a forehead. A scar on the bottom lip and a tattoo wrapped around a forearm—Buck blows on the eyelash. It flies away in the wind.
Finally, he tears his eyes away from it. His stare meets Eddie’s again, whose grin still hasn’t diminished.
Buck stutters out, “Sorry,” and takes a small step away from him. Eddie still doesn’t budge.
“No, it's—” Eddie’s fingers brush over where Buck’s once were on his face. “Uh, what does it mean?”
“Hmm?”
“The eyelash. It must mean something,” Eddie says. “Apparently, everything has a hidden meaning now. Tell me about it.” His tone is soft, and Buck melts like putty in his hands.
OR: Buck becomes strangely and obsessively superstitious about all aspects of life to hide from the fact that he’s deeply in love with his straight best friend.

Summary
Dear Captain Nash,
I know this email is kind of out of the blue, but I didn’t know who else to reach out to. I’m not even sure how to start this email. One time Buck and I signed up for this pen pal program, but the kid in Maine I was writing with gave up after two rounds of letters. It was during my ancient Egypt phase and I think I scared him off with my questions about mummies. Buck told me I was too cool for him anyway.
or
When Chris starts going to church in Texas he reaches out to the only person he can think of who might have some answers, meanwhile Eddie uses his email to try and talk to God, and Buck... well Buck online shops mostly.
A season 8 rewrite told only through email.

Summary
Day twenty-three, change of tactics.
I feel like you both are being dumb.
Dad unfolds this one and reads it and stops and reads it again like he's hoping the words will rearrange themselves into something less insulting.
"Excuse me?"
"It's my feeling." Chris spears a dumpling with his chopsticks. "You can't argue with my feeling, that's not how therapy works."
"I can ask for clarification on what you mean."
"Clarification about what? It's very clear. You—" he points at Dad, "both—" he swings to point at Buck, "dumb. Three words. Simple sentence structure. I learned about that in English class."
Or,
Chris weaponizes his therapy homework to make his emotionally constipated dad admit he's in love with Buck.- Language:

Eddie flipped the postcard one last time, reading over the words he’d inked into the paper. His thumb brushed along the corner as he slipped the card into the slot.

Yours,

And Buck thought he stumbled over his words.
Eddie takes a breath. "Shaving my face and dancing around in my underwear wasn’t enough."
Buck doesn't know what to say. He has no idea what he means. He's just glad the but wasn't the kind he was afraid of.
"Uh, is that a euphemism?"
While visiting his parents in Pennsylvania for the weekend, Buck accidentally sends Eddie a text telling him that he loves him. Eddie, reacting as any normal and sane person would, flies across the country to say it back.
