“I really can’t believe I let you talk me into this,” said Clark.
They were standing shoulder-to-shoulder on a sidewalk in Queens, creating just enough of an obstacle in the flow of pedestrian traffic to earn them the occasional eyeroll or annoyed mutterings of passers-by.
“C’mon, Brother.” Tal-Rho knocked lightly into Clark’s shoulder with his own. “I owe Lois a proper apology. I can’t show up to meet her empty-handed.”
“Yes, you said that part.” Clark jammed his hands into the pockets of his jeans. “Remind me again about the part where I actually agreed to let you drag me to a flower shop in New York City?”

“What in fresh Hels will this be?” Thor grumbled, coming to his feet and dragging himself towards the door. He placed one hand against the lock panel, the other hand coming up to rub tiredly at his good eye, and growled out the single word before the door had even finished sliding open. “What?”

“I suppose that’s one good thing, at least.”
The child’s hums mid-drink. “Hm?”
“The branched timelines,” Loki clarifies. “There’s certainly one out there where he never gets pruned at all. Maybe he gets off the planet he isolated himself on, and he makes it back to… wherever his brother is.”
The child scoffs. “Yeah, it’ll only take a couple thousand years.”
Loki pauses.
It’s not so much an idea, really, just an inkling. At least until he takes the TemPad out of his pocket, staring down at the little device and tapping his fingers against it as he thinks. He’d only brought it as a means of escape, should he ever gather his strength enough to be willing to head back to the TVA and fix any of this, but…
“Well, maybe not.”
(Or, Loki and Kid Loki decide to honor the old man by giving him a better future. It ends up being exactly what they both needed.)
