“Oh, I don’t smoke.” Todd responds, and Neil snorts as he lifts the cigarette to his lips and takes a shallow drag.
“Neither do I.”
Todd laughs, and Neil’s breath catches in his throat as he loses himself in the sound. He forces himself to laugh too, though it sounds more like a pained grunt, too busy focusing on the sight of Todd with his head thrown back to be able to produce a more convincing imitation. This, he thinks, is what life should feel like.

“That’s a good record.” He comments, grabbing her attention.
She looks over at him, then looks back at the record and takes it out of the lineup and into her hands, “Hep Alien.”
“Yeah, I think they're a new band, just came out with this about a week or so ago. It was pretty good.” He tells her.
“Alright,” she smiles at him, “I’ll get it then. Thanks.” He nods in place of a “you’re welcome” and she picks up the rest of her records and moves towards check-out. Jess moves back to skimming the Is. He glances up at her at check-out, digging money out of her pockets. She glances back, giving him a smile before handing the money to the cashier and taking her bag of records.

PSA: THERE ARE NO INAPPROPRIATE UNDERAGE RELATIONSHIPS IN THIS. i only put the underage marker because the party is still in high school at this point.hi!! i'm super excited to start writing a stranger things group chat fic!! if i'm being honest i don't have a real great idea of the roadmap of this fic. i really just want this to be a feel-good, coming of age, group chat fic. it's going to be slowburn and flip between a couple different group chats. at this point in the story, will, el, jonathan, argyle, and joyce are still living in california, the binghams are in utah, and the rest of the squad is in hawkins (including hopper). it's not going to be completely off of the plot (el still has her powers, the upside-down still exists), but for the sake of the story, we're going to kinda just assume that the upside-down and all the creatures aren't bothering our kiddos, because god knows they've been traumatized enough. so yeah, that's that. hope you enjoy!
