The table goes silent, previously loud chatter now nowhere to be found. And Rudo, with a chill, realizes that maybe he should've kept his mouth shut. Damn him and his stupid tounge.
The scent of forget-me-nots sours, turning rotten. A cloud of everything dark and malicious seems to descend over the group, making them still.
Slowly, very very slowly, Rudo lifts his head to take a glance. A bad, no, terrible decision. So bad in fact, that the only thing he sees before Lovely Assitaff connects with his skull is the rage behind those indigo eyes.

"What?" he must've landed on shit or something real nasty for Semiu to be making such a concerned face? He turns, shifting his pants to see what she's talking about, and instead of a shit stain—thank god—he sees a tent forming out of his pants—oh fuck—he chokes on spit.

“Uhh—You’re Zanka, right?” Enjin could've sworn that the suicidal teen he talked out of that well sounded like a guy; they talked for a decent amount of time, so he should be able to tell.
Said teen stood in front of him now, and Enjin wondered if he had it all wrong. The well that he—or she—maybe they?—hid themselves in was a dark place, so Enjin couldn't exactly get a full grasp of their appearance.

Summary
Riyo steps into Goka’s direction, her hand settled over her gun and her shoulders set.
Zanka grabs that very same hand, and walks over where Enjin is watching them, silent. He's not often silent, but things have shifted, and his mentor always needs a moment to find his footing again.
Zanka sits at the edge of his bed, his back turned to him. Riyo freezes standing at the edge of the bed, then drags herself to Enjins's feet and curls there, like an animal wounded.
“...I see,” Enjin says, his voice a rasp, sounding bruised. He had been injured. Grievously injured. Zanka doesn't know how. He had not been there. He's never there, not when it matters.
“You don't,” Riyo parries, the words as dull as her eyes.

Zanka should have known that a letter from his family could only mean disaster. He knew it the moment he saw the pristine Nijiku seal, but what good was that knowledge when he had to open it anyway?
Worse, he had to open it in front of Semiu, Corvus, Enjin THE Enjin Riyo, and even that stupid Spherite. Semiu knew exactly what he would do once he read the contents: burn the letter and pretend it had never arrived. So she forced him to read it out loud.
The message was simple.
The Nijiku family wanted him back.
While the others immediately refused to let him go, Zanka was the only one who truly understood what that meant. If his family had decided to reclaim him, there would be no hiding, no escaping, and no fighting his way out of it.
As panic closed around his throat and his carefully built life began to crumble, Zanka realized one terrifying truth
he was already cooked.
