Sure, it wasn't the way he would have chosen, yet in a way, it was proof that he still held on that same hope, that same belief of making another step towards his dream, though it has been tempered by the bitter taste of reality. A black smear would forever be painted across the colorful canvas that was his mind space.

If Thanos was going to give Loki an Infinity Stone, he needed some form of insurance that Loki would not abandon the plan to invade Earth for the Tesseract at the first opportunity. He turned the prince over to his loyal servant to provide "incentive." A little time alone together ensured that Loki would obey and would not fail in his mission. Not if he wanted to avoid a slow and cruel death.

Her mission was simple: retrieve the poofed and damaged gems that had been trapped in the collapsed towers if she could, scout the area if she couldn't, and determine what had caused every gem in the area to suddenly lose contact with Homeworld three hundred years ago.
It was only a little mission, and there were no documented predators or even multicellular organisms on this planet. If she was injured or got sick, one of the Robonoids would sent out a distress message.
There wasn't any real danger.
