Summary

Wei Wuxian had never had an easy life, but he would say he'd had a pretty happy life. Sure there were times things were hard, and he probably made things harder on himself as he was willing to give all of himself to help those he loved. And he definitely would never wish his life on anyone else or for any child to grow up as he had. But he firmly believed that his past shaped him to be who he was. Sure, there were people he would like more time with and points in his life he wished had lasted longer, but for the most part he wouldn't change a thing. Except... well, there was that one night that changed everything, and suddenly, Wei Wuxian couldn't remember who he was or much about himself. All he had were his tattoos, the little boy that called him Xian-Gege, the remnants of memories and emotions that he had nothing to attach to and remember, and apparently a tattoo shop.

Summary
It is the five year anniversary of Wei Wuxian's death.
Wangji arrives in the garden and walks away from the shade of the nearby pavilion to wait for mother and son, when he sees a ghost.
It must be one; there is a man sitting by one of the ponds, with grey eyes and unruly black hair whittling away at some wood, some scrolls and papers strewn around him. And unmistakably, the dark signature of demonic cultivation surrounding him like a shroud. Wangji blinks, his mind static, and he takes a step towards the cultivator, and then another, and quietly, quietly calls "Wei Ying...?" into the garden between them.
The cultivator doesn't hear him, and Wangji was about to take another step towards him, when Madam Qin emerges next to him, Rusong bundled up in a thick outer robe. She greets him and, upon being ignored, glances over to find out what has him so captivated.
"Oh. That is Mo Xuanyu, he's A-Yao's brother." She smiled and Wangji forced himself to tear away his gaze, disappointment settling low in his gut. Of course it wasn't Wei Wuxian, of course, but. Well. Today was not an easy day for him, and he was even more maudlin than usual.

Wei Wuxian always knew who his words belonged to, ever since he turned fifteen and they first appeared. They were Jiang Cheng’s, and he knew that Jiang Cheng would never want him like that so he resolved himself to ignoring them. Then, when he returned because of Mo Xuanyu’s sacrifice, he had two soulmarks, two sets of words, and the second set belonged to Lan Zhan, who was much more open to a relationship with him. Wei Wuxian was happy with that, because he loved Lan Zhan, and Jiang Cheng couldn’t stand him anyway.
And then he learned how miserable Jiang Cheng actually was without his soulmate, and he decided that maybe he did need to do something about it.
