“You can’t take him.” Ed started forward, trying to get between Izzy and Edward Bonnet.
“Why not?” The man snorted. "He was bought with my money. Makes him mine already."
“Ah, I got him for Lucius.” Stede blurted out, realizing he was supposed to fight his father over this, but his father just smirked.
“I’ll return him to the boy when I’m done. I’m sure he’s well enough used to our leftovers at this point.” Stede paled and Ed went to say something, but Izzy cut him off before he said something dumb. Ed needed to stay with Stede, where it was safe. Izzy needed to keep his only friend in the world safe.
“It’s fine.” He caught Ed’s eye. “I guess maybe you should tell the boy after all.” Ed’s expression softened and he nodded. Izzy knew he'd let the boy know, offer him this consolation prize of losing him to Stede's father. He'd let Lucius know that despite how Izzy liked to act sometimes, the truth was, Izzy felt the same.
