Summary
His heart faltered when he saw a tuft of ginger hair.
Tango, his Tango was curled up against the stone wall, legs tucked up and arms folded in on himself. His red jumper was particularly prevalent. It had been- goodness, it had been so long since Zedaph had seen his friend in red.
Red meant Tango was wearing his usual skin. Not the stupid dungeon master cloak which he’d grown to despise over time. (Not only did he hate how it hid Tango away, but he loathed the magic woven into it). It had infested Tango, turning his glowing, fiery, eyes and hair blue.
Blue was cold and detached, an oyster in an ecosystem. Red was beautiful, bright and energetic.
Red was Tango.

Double life ends, and Tango is a mess. Zedaph is not best pleased

Concern and confusion now weighed on the brow of the other man, who squinted as he surveyed the Blazeborn.
“You’re not my Tango.”
“Ngk- No. I’m not.” He spluttered in response, finally turning to face Zed.
His best friend stood completely still, staring at his doppelgänger, his eyes were narrowed with anger and he was troubling his bottom lip. Tango silently willed Zed to look at him so he could explain- elaborate, but he didn’t.

Summary
He grabbed onto a table to stabilise himself, sending a small mountain of files careening to the floor. Zedaph gasped for breath, but the hilarity of his situation was so great, he couldn’t seem to stop himself from laughing. It was involuntary and almost painful, but he smiled through it nonetheless. Because he had to. Because if he didn’t- if he couldn’t, who would? He was completely alone in this mission, in this torture. A glitch that had nothing to do with him was now his sole responsibility. How fucking ridiculous was that?
His head hurt. Fuck, his head hurt. He was so tired, so so tired. Was everything usually this bright? Where was Tango- He needed-

Tango doesn’t come back from his trip to space at the end of season eight, and Zedaph is given a chance to save him, (as well as the rest of the hermits) by travelling back in time.
He- doesn’t take it well.

He turned around to look at Tango who was currently lying on his stomach, kicking his feet back and forth as he gazed at Zedaph lovingly.
“That. How do I stop that?”
“Oh, it’ll wear off on its own.”
“Phew! Okay, when? Five-Ten minutes?”
Skizz grimaced at him, “Uh, a day?”
“A day maximum.” He clarified.
Zedaph deadpanned him.
“I have to deal with this for a whole day?!”

“Fine. I know that you were a couple of minutes out from starving before I gave you that steak, I know that if I started mining now, it would take us half an hour to get out of here.” he paused.
“-I know... that despite your sulking-” he flicked Bdubs on the nose,
“-You actually don’t mind being stuck in here with me.”
“Oh yeah?” He asked, raising an eyebrow, “-How could you possibly know that?”
Etho smiled, “Because I know you, Dubs.”
“Don’t worry,” he added as his friend blushed a deep rose,
“-I don’t mind either.”

Tango looked down at himself, at flimsy, vintage material and distinct lack of any warm item of clothing.
“I’m not-”
But before he could say another word, Zed was pulling his jacket from his shoulders, holding it out to Tango as a silent offering.
The man laughed loudly and swatted it away, brushing the man off.
“Vampires don’t get cold!”
The blonde reached up and seized the arm Tango had caught him with earlier, trailing his gentle touch up from Tango’s wrist and onto his palm. Slotting their fingers together once more, Zedaph smiled softly.
“Maybe they do on Christmas.”

“I’m-” He swallowed and Tango watched his throat bob.

Heartbeat loud and erratic, thundering in his ears, the rush of blood loud enough to deafen a man, soft skin, fresh blood hot and-
“No.” Tango choked, desperately trying to maintain focus.
“-No, I- thank you, Zed. But I- No. Just no.”
The inventor cocked his head to the side, exposing his right collarbone.
“Why not? Seriously, you can take it. I’ll regenerate, I’ll even brew some potions!”
Because once I know what having my lips on your skin feels like, I don’t know if I’d ever be able to look at you the same way again.
Tango took a large breath.
“I- don’t want to hurt you.”

The Scientist brushed him off.
“Don’t worry about it, man. I don’t doubt for a second that Tango deserves it.”
At his words, Bdubs grew suddenly serious, crossing his arms resolutely.
“He does. Your boyfriend is an asshole. I hope he gets leprosy and dies.”
OR: An AU where Soulmates randomly swap bodies for a couple of minutes and Zed momentarily ends up in Secret Life.
