“I guess, but he could-” He’s cut off by his phone dinging.
Can’t come, grandparents dad mad.
That’s the whole text, and Karma stares at it for at least two minutes before texting back a question mark.

He hadn’t brought anyone. Didn’t plan to. He was fine with that. Or at least he pretended to be, lounging in his chair with that signature smirk, chewing gum like it tasted better than this entire day.
Then the classroom door opened—and the air shifted.
A pair of expensive heels clicked against the floor first. “Karma~! Sweetheart, is this where you’ve been learning all this time?”
