Richard rolls his window down. It smells metallic, damp even though it is not raining and it hasn't been. He breathes in consciously. Henry does too. Yet he doesn't slow down his driving and the wind is quite strong. Richard buttons up his coat. Henry shifts his gaze to the movement, and the car slows down. It starts to snow while on the way back to college. They pass the Inn they had been to before to have dinner with Francis and Charles and Camilla. Henry drives through it, finds the road impassable ahead, turns around. The car stops in front of the Inn.
"Do you mind?" Henry questions.
"Not as if we have a choice." He says.
"But do you?"
Richard finds the enquiry rather odd.
"No"Or rather, The Secret History if Henry Winter was to become (slightly) infatuated with John Richard Papen. It has a divergence at the beginning, but it will later follow the progression of the book. Mostly.

Living in a world where the fell dragon could summon a horde of shambling monsters bent on destruction just about anywhere was hard enough. Living in that world as the son of said fell dragon was... inconvenient, to say the least. Perhaps he had someone over, someone frowning in the corner of the room with arms crossed. I imagined fluorescent lights and rawboned palm trees through the window.
“A hotel,” I answered briskly, and without delay added: “It’s over. I’m leaving her.”--
Post epilogue, Francis decides he can't endure his marriage and, desperate to get out of New York, goes to stay with Richard in California. But he isn't telling Richard everything, and tensions are bound to rise.
