Surgery, rehabilitation, and annoying opposition alphas hadn't even featured on his radar, but in the aftermath of a severe shoulder injury, they were suddenly the new reality of his life, each bringing their own unique problems to deal with.

When Josh invites the group back to the Washington Lodge for a reunion, they discover that this case may not be entirely closed. There’s a Psycho loose on the premise, and he’s not done with the group yet. When he vowed to destroy the Washingtons, he meant the two people dearest to them as well.

Chris remembers this wheel of emotions that hung on the wall of Dr. Lim’s office after the tsunami. A large colorful circle, divided up like a pie. So many sections with so many different names. At the time, he couldn’t imagine that you could feel so many things. Sure, he’d felt a lot of things in his life. Happiness, sadness, anger. Fear. But all of those feelings were so simple, too loud to ignore.
But now—now he gets it. Now, his emotions feel like that box of abandoned power chords at the back of his closet, all tangled together that he couldn't pull apart and name if he tried; all knotted up and strangling him from the inside.
I thought she was real, but she’s not my mom.
He thinks about the split second of elation he felt at the idea that—somehow—she was back, quickly followed by anger with himself at even considering that impossibility. A white hot, pulsing cloud in his chest that makes it hard to breathe. He flips back and forth between why why why and thinking it’s better not to know
