This is the reworked version of my unfinished Death Note fic "A Week in Wammy's". I intend to give this story the ending it deserves. This version is a complete rewrite, with new and changed scenes. Each chapter will include images, along with a link in the end notes to a song/AMV fitting to what happens in the chapter.
Summary:
Eight days before Christmas, Wammy takes the children of the orphanage on a week-long outing to London, leaving the young detective L and his successor B alone on the premises. The hope is that, in this rare moment of quiet, they might begin to help each other heal, after the death of L's former successor, A.
Over the course of seven days, we uncover L’s past. Where did he come from before he found refuge in Wammy’s House? And can he ever shed the trauma of his early childhood?
We also witness the origins of Beyond Birthday, and why he became a psychotic serial killer.
The story unfolds through flashbacks in the lives of both young men. -

L’s got some sort of thing about this church. He always has. He loves to be in there, although Backup doesn’t know why. When they were younger he liked to sit in the pews and drink from a silver flask he’d picked up in Basingstoke which he obviously thought made him seem quite cool and before that he’d simply liked to run around in it, or sit curled up with his comic books, or eat candies out of a bag in the pews. Frankly, it’s very odd, but that’s true of so much about L — he seems sometimes less like a person than like some sort of effervescent fae, possessed of a logic peculiar to himself.

After the LA BB murder case Naomi Misora has finally returned to work for the FBI as planned. Her first task on her return, requested through the pipeline by L, is to interrogate Beyond Birthday, who has not told any of the investigators anything about his crimes up to that point.
Beyond proves himself useful to the FBI to help solve the cases that they are stuck on, and so Naomi is sent back again and again, and gradually is drawn into Beyond's web.
