Summary
Dark hair, shorter than average height (at least for Germany), a face that seems so… forgettable at first glance. Kind of like gray paint. The boy looks up, his expression flickering between confusion and politeness. His hands hesitate over the laces of his cleats, and something about that slight pause irritates Kaiser for no good reason. Or maybe it was because this boy seemed to belong here in a way Kaiser didn’t—too at ease with this bland, second-rate environment. At being under a roof that didn’t leak, with strangers who might want to harm him, who were all out to crush each other in some way.
Kaiser scans the room briefly before his eyes land on the boy officially. “This the right dorm?”
“Uh… yeah,” the boy says, still caught off guard. “Are you... new?”
“No, I just thought I’d drag all my stuff here for fun,” he replies dryly, stepping inside without waiting for an invitation. He sets his suitcase down with a thud, and his duffel bag follows soon after.

THE BESTEST THING ACTUALLY EVER OH MY GOD

Isagi’s frustration builds like a storm, his movements growing sharper and more erratic with each adjustment to his uniform. The tag of his jersey feels like it’s cutting into his neck, the stitching in his shorts is all wrong, and the socks, damn the socks, are so tight they might as well be vices, and he can feel every stitch and seam in the fabric.
He’s standing in front of the mirror, his reflection a mess of furrowed brows and jittery hands. His chest rises and falls too quickly, his breathing unsteady. The panic creeps in, unwelcome and unstoppable.
Behind him, Kaiser lies sprawled on his bed, watching the entire ordeal unfold. At first, he finds it amusing—Isagi getting worked up over something as trivial as a uniform. But then he notices the way Isagi’s hands shake slightly as they fumble with the hem of his jersey, the way his eyes dart around like he’s searching for a solution he can’t find.
Isagi sits down heavily on the edge of the bed, muttering, “I can’t focus like this. I’m going to mess everything up. I can’t—” He stops, gripping the fabric of his shorts so hard his knuckles turn white.
Kaiser’s smirk falters. The panic in Isagi’s voice isn’t theatrical; it’s real. And even though the problem seems absurd, even invisible, to him, it clearly isn’t to Isagi.
Kaiser swings his legs off the bed and stands, walking over. “Hey,” he says, his tone softer than usual, though he still keeps his trademark edge. “Relax.”
Isagi doesn’t look at him, his jaw tight. “I can’t. This stupid uniform- everything about it feels wrong. I can’t focus if I’m uncomfortable.”
Kaiser sighs, crouching down to be at eye level with him. He hesitates for a moment, then says, “Alright. Let’s fix it.”
Isagi finally looks at him, his eyes wide with surprise. “What?”
“I said, let’s fix it,” he repeats, as if it’s the most obvious thing in the world. “Where’s the problem? The tag?” He reaches for Isagi’s jersey, waiting for a nod before gently tugging it backward.
“It’s- yeah, it’s the tag,” Isagi says, his voice quieter now.
Kaiser pulls out a pocketknife from his bag, carefully slicing the tag off in one clean motion, making sure not to leave any stray strings that might annoy Isagi. “There. No more sandpaper.”
Isagi stares at him like he’s just performed a miracle. “You… cut it off?”
“No, I burned it with my mind. Of course, I cut it off.” Kaiser rolls his eyes but without the usual bite. “What else? Socks too tight?”
“No, the seams—”
Before he can finish, Kaiser rummages through his bag and pulls out another pair of socks. “Try these. They’re from the equipment manager. Softer material.”
Isagi takes them hesitantly, slipping them on. They fit perfectly, and the tension in his shoulders eases slightly.
"Idiot," Kaiser mutters under his breath, turning off the light.
“Kaiser, you are,” he hears, looking back down at Isagi in the dark. “You are my best friend.”
Kaiser looks at Isagi, his heart pounding in his chest. The words are simple, but they hit him like a wave crashing over a cliff, leaving him breathless and unsure of what to say.
For a long moment, they just look at each other. Isagi, his face flushed from the alcohol, meets Kaiser’s eyes with an earnestness that cuts through the usual teasing and banter. It’s rare to see him like this.
Kaiser opens his mouth to respond, but the words catch in his throat. He’s not used to hearing people say that. Not like this. Not so plainly.
“You’re my best friend too,” he finally says, his voice softer than he intended. His heart is still racing, but he’s not sure if it’s from the confession or the way Isagi’s eyes are studying him, looking for something. He wouldn’t remember it anyways.
Isagi gives him a small, almost shy smile. "Good," Isagi says simply. "I’m happy."
Kaiser’s chest tightens. They’ve been through a lot together, rivals, teammates, friends, but hearing those words, makes everything feel... different. And yet, a part of him wonders if this is just a fleeting moment of drunken honesty, or if Isagi really feels this way. He doesn’t know how to navigate this, but something about the way Isagi is looking at him makes him want to believe it.
Isagi shifts slightly, leaning closer, his breath warm against Kaiser’s skin. "I’ve never really had anyone, you know? Not like this. Someone who gets me."
Kaiser swallows hard, his hand twitching at his side like he wants to reach out, but he doesn’t. Instead, he nods, his voice barely a whisper. “I get it.”
For a moment, it’s just the two of them, the sound of their breathing and the distant hum of music filling the quiet. It’s a strange, comforting silence, and Kaiser doesn’t want to break it.
