Mike’s mouth split into a grin before he could stop it. He pressed the phone closer to his ear.
“Great,” he said, lowering his voice even more. “Just—be careful climbing over the garage this time, okay? My dad would actually fucking kill you if he caught you out there.”
“When have I ever gotten caught?” Will shot back, teasing, confident.
Mike snorted quietly. “Are you serious? Remember when—”
“Yeah, yeah, whatever,” Will cut in, laughing now. “I’ll be there by midnight.”

Ever since Will realized he was part of the hive mind, that he had powers, the cold hadn’t really affected him. Unconsciously, Will thinks his brain uses his powers to keep him warm so he never has to think of the cold the mindflayer inflicted on him, so he radiates body heat like a furnace.
Mike, however, was another story. He was entirely human, without supernatural powers. Will could see his lips turning blue from across the room, and his teeth were chattering in a way that was beginning to alarm Will, even ensconced in blankets as he was.
Will was going to have to wrap his arms around Mike to keep him warm, and that was a problem.
In short, Will and Mike are visiting Will's childhood home for winter break when the heat goes out. They do their best to keep each other warm, but their close proximity makes it harder to keep their questions and secrets in check.
