Summary
John made it a dozen steps down the mountain before he stopped dead in his tracks and marveled at his own stupidity. What was he doing? It was what Arthur asked him to do–no, begged him to do–but that didn't make it right.
In between coughing fits that made John's stomach churn, Arthur had kept going on about how John had a family in Abigail and Jack, and maybe that was true… but before there had been John and Abigail or John and Jack, there had been John and Arthur. He'd called Arthur his brother while he clutched his bleeding shoulder and wore Arthur's hat and satchel, because he thought it was what Arthur would want to hear before John ran off like a coward. It wasn't untrue, not exactly, but if John's feelings for the self-sacrificing idiot weren't completely platonic, well, now wasn't the time or place to examine that.
(AKA the fic where John doesn't leave the mountain alone, and everything that happens afterward.)

Summary
What if Ross hadn't been lying and Abigail really was killed in a prison riot a week before Dutch's death?
That's the situation John Marston finds himself in after watching Dutch commit suicide. He manages to shoot his way out of trouble after killing Edgar Ross in retaliation, but with Jack sent to an unknown orphanage, Uncle dead, and Beecher's Hope reduced to ashes, he has nowhere to go except for MacFarlane's Ranch. Thankfully, Bonnie and her father agree to let him stay and hide him from the law, but John has lost his wife, the thing he loves most.
Now a broken man, he begins work as a ranch hand for the MacFarlanes while keeping his head down and plotting how to find and rescue Jack. The only problem is that rescuing Jack might lead the law right to him, and he can't put the MacFarlanes in danger after their kindness towards him. To complicate things further, John is starting to develop feelings for Bonnie he can't seem to shake.

Summary
Arthur Morgan is a bedtime story. His death in 1899 rang out the death knell of outlaws and bandits everywhere, signaling the beginning of a new, more civilized century. Almost 40 years later, a journalist seeks out Elsa Schneider, one of the last people to know Arthur as a man and a marauder. He expects to hear a eulogy, but when Elsa informs him that Arthur Morgan never died on that mountain, he’s given a story about loyal friendships, acts of desperation, unrequited love, and what it takes to do the impossible. From a common brothel girl to a legend in her own right, this is the tale of Elsa Schneider. You’ve never heard of her, but after this, you’ll never be able to forget her.
Join me as I unravel the climax of Red Dead Redemption II like you've never seen it before.
