Fang winced at the sound but crawled out of his cage. He made his way on all fours to a large chair that sat next to an equally large table. He draped himself over the chair and prepared himself for the paddle.

Fang gets punished for being a bad puppy and leaving the newspaper, containing the news about the break in at Gringotts, on the table for Harry to find.

Lucius Malfoy is released the same day after the Department of Mysteries by his sister-in-law, Bellatrix Lestrange. Hagrid often took a walk near the Black Lake with Fang early in the morning. On this day he did not expect to find a injured young girl wrapped in a brown fur and seaweed ashore. He took her as fast as he could to the Hospital wing where she would be tended to by Madam Poppy Pomfrey where it was soon discovered she was not a student but a Selkie. Dumbledore decreed she would remain under Hagrid's care until she was feeling better. The Ministry would greatly disprove if she enrolled as a student for she is not entirely human but there was no rule set in place that said she could not remain as a member of staff. She was then placed as a Professor's assistant much to the joy of several Professors except Snape. He was rather skeptical at the idea until he saw her for the first time in the Great Hall.

After a certain number of visits and bringing scraps of meat, he was reasonably certain that Fluffy wouldn't show signs of aggression towards him in a quiet room, but honestly, with a three-headed dog this large, Harry wasn't keen on testing that theory out in its entirety. He had settled for buying a record player in Hogsmeade and leaving it in here with a couple hours of slow, calming piano music. For a visit like this, one of the records with bright, quick flutes would keep some amount of calm.

You can always come down to me hut, that's what Hagrid had said. A chat or a cuppa, it didn't matter.
So, on a drizzly grey day when Harry felt chilled walking down the path even at noon, he thought he'd stop by. The large chair would be warm, and he could probably borrow the quilt made up of blocks of pink and yellow flowers. Hagrid's cups were as large as a tankard, and nothing about this lazy Saturday plan seemed poorly thought out.
Unfortunately, Harry did not plan on Hagrid being out on a day like this.
