That’ll kill ye, ye ken?” she said suddenly, watching with amusement as he jolted, clearly not expecting company. He flicked the cigarette out the window so fast it tumbled end over end into the dark.
“Are ye talkin’ tae me?” he asked, hopping down from the sill and stepping into the centre of the room, where the shadows swallowed him up.
She raised a brow. It was three in the morning, and he was the only person in the room. “No,” she said dryly, gesturing to the open window, “the monkey beside you was smoking a crack pipe.”
He glanced back at the window, then at her again, face perfectly straight. “Ah, well… I’ll tell him tae stop.”
“Tell who to stop?”
“The monkey smoking crack,” he said, utterly deadpan.
She narrowed her eyes. “Did you skip your meds?”
