Summary
Every mammal on the planet participates in the world's largest and most sophisticated game of chess. It's a game where anybody may be the king or queen, but they can also be used as pawns by others if they make the wrong judgment calls. Nick and Judy are just getting started in their relationship and have returned from their Christmas break to continue navigating Zootopia City's tumultuous political and social landscape. Existing criminal operations are being shattered across the city by a steady stream of foreign intervention and sabotage. Worse, despite the efforts of the Greater Zootopia Territory's law enforcement agencies, the influx of enslaved mammals is expanding. Individuals from the group continue to elude detection at all levels of state intelligence collection, shocking local criminal leaders and civilian officials alike. The pieces of that one-of-a-kind chess match continue to move, or be moved, around the board in a rather anarchic fashion and the city's most iconic duo must match their pieces' movements carefully to avoid being separated.

His 'same shit, different day' world was rudely interrupted by a mammal he frankly didn't see coming, and it awoke something within him he thought long buried. It all seemed too good to be true, they found the missing mammals, stopped the bad guy, and he was set to join her in the light... Then she betrayed him. Could he forgive her?
Neither knew when she came back that they were both riding the tail end of the leading front of the coming storm.

Six years after Nick Wilde leaves the ZPD to start fresh and to hopefully get over losing who he thought would be his life-mate, she comes looking for him.
Six years after Judy makes a heartfelt choice that forces Nick from her life, she learns his location and forces Fin and Benjamin Clawhouser to take her on a 14 hour drive to go find the fox she once loved so she can apologize to him. Unfortunately, he does not want anything to do with the rabbit. His life has become focused on raising his new daughter as a single father and seeing the rabbit that tore his heart out for a second time once again was not something he ever wanted to have happen... not now... not ever.
Destiny has other plans as Nick's hybrid young daughter Nicole's health forces Nick back to Zootopia and the ZPD so Nicole can get the lifelong therapeutic treatment that may save her life.
