Now Ranboo wasn’t so sure. The way Hetch tensed when the Founder was mentioned made them think they must’ve been right last night, and he really was afraid of her.
There was, also, a sadness in his eyes, a loneliness that reminded them of the buildings covered in vines. The feeling of something being strangled little by little, so slowly you almost couldn’t see.
“I wonder what’s out there,” Hetch said softly.

When a sequence of unexpected events leads to Ranboo meeting the Founder’s son, the enigmatic Hetch, neither of them are expecting to form a friendship. Summary
The lights turned Scarlet as a mechanical whirr echoed across the room followed by a sickening wet crunch. Every nerve in Ranboo’s head felt like it had been lit aflame as the spikes penetrated their skull. Crimson liquid flowed from the bottom of the box soaking into their jacket staining the grey with streaks of dark reddish-brown. Their arms instinctually began to twitch before slumping forward. The lights in the room dimmed to black as the cameras turned off, waiting until it's time for the next show.

Ranboo ran for his life, only stopping once he got to the food court. There were people here. Other showfall puppets. He tried to wake them up from the daze of content creation they were in, but nobody answered. Maybe he should've kept going, but his eyes laid on the last one of them.
Charlie.
They couldn't just leave the poor guy here. He'd been through so much at the hands of someone who he thought was his friend. At Ranboos' hands, they were the one to do it even if they weren't in control of themselves. Charlie had died at their hands twice. Surely he couldn't have actually survived that surgery that they'd had to do on him. Yet, he was sitting in front of them right now, streaming to thousands of unknown viewers.

“Are you coming?” Charlie asked from up ahead, and Ranboo noticed the amount of distance he had put between the two.
“Yeah, yeah I’m coming,” Ranboo said, finally taking his eyes off of the now empty corner of the room. The shadow was gone, and he was fine. They weren’t going insane. They were fine. Completely fine.
Ranboo and Charlie walked through the mall together, and Ranboo couldn’t help but feel like he was being watched. They kept looking over their shoulder, and everytime he did, something moved in his peripheral vision. He assumed it was just Charlie, who was walking very carefully through the mall, and the recklessness of the movement did not match Charlie’s careful movements at all, but Ranboo was trying to convince himself that he was not insane. He was okay, just tired.
