They all lost out on those opportunities… because of him.

Squiggles only reached Hetch's knees in terms of height.
Maybe it was that, or the fact that he reacted in the same ways one might expect an excitable child to react, or both, that made him so likable; that made Hetch like him so quickly.
Squiggles reminded Hetch of a toddler, almost. Eager to learn, emotional—almost unaware of the world around himself.
Hetch didn't think someone—something?—like that deserved to be stuck in a place like this, like the mall.
