Geralt’s face drained of all expression. Then his eyes grew dark as his pupils expanded to their limit. “You want…”
“I want to prove you wrong,” Istredd said firmly. “I’ll demonstrate that I’m as devoted to my work as you are to yours.”
Geralt drew in a ragged breath. “You really don’t have to.”
“But I will.”

Geralt is killed before he can apologize to Jaskier for what he said on the mountain, and so his ghost lingers on, watching over his bard.
Jaskier doesn't take the news of Geralt's death very well. He would be crying himself to sleep each night if he wasn't spending all his time worrying about a certain power-hungry sorceress.
Yennefer wants a child, and with Geralt gone, it only seems fitting that she should care for his surprise child in his stead. Right?
Even though she's a ghost, Renfri still has something haunting her.
(Currently on hiatus because Netflix has been killing my love for the franchise).

He couldn’t remember having ever been this royally fucked before. He’d lost most of his money, supplies, kit, and his swords – and as such any hope of earning any new coin, damn him – in absolutely monster infested territory. More importantly, he’d been stuck behind chaotic battle lines at the dawn of a hard winter with the world’s most wanted and extremely recognizable twelve-year-old.
And now they were in Novigrad, well-fed and out of the cold and with some prospects of making it home alive. He couldn’t help but be grateful, if not to this man, then to chance. He couldn’t help but be suspicious. Most importantly, he couldn’t shake the feeling that this was destiny, come once more to fuck him.
Geralt would like for himself and Ciri to not be in mortal peril for about five minutes. Istredd just needs someone who won't be too terribly affected by any magical set-backs in his quest to help an old friend. Certainly, they met purely on accident.

Witchers feel emotions, Renfri wasn't a monster, Roach is chill, Geralt prefers nonhuman company and lies a lot, Jaskier is generally good at people but is happy to ignore what they say, Yennefer's life is abuse piled atop abuse with a sprinkle of ethnic cleansing and a complete lack of choice, Istredd's life likely wasn't much better, Tissaia does not know what she's doing, Triss is lying about being assigned to cure the princess, Jaskier is surprisingly tolerant of Geralt getting him on Calanthe's shitlist, Kalis was in a bad situation and didn't rise above it, it really shouldn't surprise people Yennefer gets weird about having a kid, rogue mages are afraid of the Brotherhood but it seems to be a paper tiger, Jaskier took being dumped by the countess really hard but despite his own problems he's concerned for Geralt, Geralt was fine with having sex with Yennefer but concerned she had some other plot. Yennefer doesn't believe anyone cares about her or could possibly care about her.
Ch25: Geralt lives in a world where people so constantly do things he considers monstrous he's given up on even mentioning it to them, and this episode takes place in the shadow of that mental weight.
