Despite how heartbroken that made Marvin look, Whizzer was too scared to allow more. He couldn’t get too vulnerable. Not after what happened last time. “Go home, Marvin. Come back to the bar tomorrow if you want to do this again.”
Marvin stared at him, before nodding, kissing him softly, and making his way out.
He fell to the side, hugging a pillow to his chest. Feelings meant intimacy. Intimacy meant vulnerability. Vulnerability meant he would get hurt. Marvin would hurt him if he was too open with him.

“Jason? What are you still doing up?” Emmett asked, beginning to pace down the corridor. Another student walked past with a pile of laundry, scowling at him. He smiled as apologetically as he could.
“You need to come home.”
“What?” Emmett froze, tucking himself into a corner.
“You need to come home.” Jason insisted, but he didn’t sound cross. Instead his voice sounded crackly, and it took Emmett a moment to realise he was trying not to cry.
“Slow down. Jason, I need you to slow down.” Emmett bent slightly, hunching over as if that could somehow help him slip down through the phone and towards Jason.
“Dad hit Mom.”
“… he what?”
Jason is traumatised by the events of Marvin Hits Trina, and calls the only person capable of putting his family back together: his big brother Emmett.
