Schlatt can't hurt Quackity. And even if he can't remember how he has, and even if there's a new question burning away unanswered in a journal he's started to keep, that uncertain word ,again, echoes after the promise in his head the same as Tubbo's threat left at the bottom of a hill.
Schlatt can't hurt him again.
But Quackity asks him one more time and it sounds to Schlatt like it's breaking at the end. He feels it in his own chest like the toying grip of arresting fingers, wrapped around his heart.
They squeeze and he understands that what Quackity is feeling right then is pain.
Schlatt can't hurt him (again). So against all odds, he leans in.
