Of course, nothing ever went Leo's way. Why would they? The universe had it out for him, he knew it. A wanted poster pasted on the fates wall. 'This one', he knew they’d say, 'this one deserves it'.
Maybe they’d just cut the leg right off, maybe they’d slice him down the plastron. Maybe they’d let him die. Wouldn’t that be something, Leonardo, leader, brother, killed because his knee hurt a little.
With that, he pushed his arms to move, blocked the sword, and stood the fuck back up. Pain was in the mind, anyway. What was a knee to him? He could overcome anything, and he would overcome this.

By eight thirty the lair was running on generator power and Donnie’s ears were ringing so loud he couldn’t even hear the baritone of the motor thrumming out in the open sewers. Note vibrating on the handle because no twin had returned home to rip it off with a roll of his brown eyes before depositing the original propane tank nearby. Donnie couldn’t hear Mikey’s voice as he asked about Leo, he couldn’t feel Raph’s hand as they brought him into the lair to warm up his frozen fingers.
Someone else moved Donnie’s mouth and made his vocal cords vibrate into the open air of their home. Someone else stood in the doorway of their father’s room begging their dad to get out of bed because Leo was missing. Someone else felt the world caving in because all the things that were supposed to be unimaginable were happening right now.
As if panic could knock back a respiratory infection Raph and Mikey hooked the TV up with Donnie’s numb help. The weather report was worse than they last knew. That blizzard that was originally projected to hit tomorrow by one in the afternoon would be here at their doorstep much earlier.

“I don’t know how old I am,” he said, the thought coming to him as he voiced it. That happened to him a lot. He wasn’t great at keeping what was in his mind from spilling out through his lips. Or at resisting the bone-deep instincts to bare his neck, dive to his knees, trade out reality for falsehoods if only it meant five more minutes without the end of the world.
Raph blinked. “Seventeen. You’re seventeen.” He messed with the remote, but he didn’t change the channel. Just picked at the battery casing, popping it in and out, in and out. “Our birthday passed while you were – you know. With him.” He finally pressed down on one of the buttons and turned down the volume. “Do you know how long that was?”
Forever. Ten thousand years. A lifetime and an eon and the same exact stretch of time that it’d taken to shape the mountains from dust, erode stone until it became smooth.
“It was about four months,” Raph said, and Leo felt something crack.
or, getting Leo back was the easy part. Leo is still wholly convinced that his love for the Shredder supersedes all logic. After he's spent months at the Shredder's mercy, the hard part is convincing him not to go running back to the man he calls master.

About a month has passed since the invasion. The wounds healed, the seams dragged on, the city slowly returned to its circles. His brothers also tried to move on. Leonardo also tried to move on, working out his skills at night. All responsibility, enemies, danger, leadership - all this devoured it from the inside, twisting the intestines with a knot. But no matter how he tried to hide, he was found and pulled back into the world full of dangers. And so day after day Leo pulled his mask, hiding fear, pulling into the dark depths of horror. And he did not even notice how his body betrayed him, praying for help. But it was not about him.
Or Leonardo tries to become better after the attack of the Cranges, torturing himself not only physically, but also morally. But it was not about him and Leonardo intended to continue to torment himself. That's just his body betrayed him, clearly giving signals for help. What will his brothers say to this?

Leo and casey were practically opposites: anti-social vs social butterfly, awkwardly anxious vs unapologetically loud, pessimistically cautious vs optimistically impulsive, anxiety ridden autism vs hyperactive adhd, and most importantly... turtle vs human.

"Leo didn't know what to do or how to help. But in the haze of it, he caught a glimpse of Casey's eyes, wide and terrified and smothered with tears. That's when he noticed it. Casey's eyes were bloodshot red. To a point where it was scary. And all of a sudden, his behavior made a lot of sense. The panic, the over sharing, the honesty, the carelessness, all of it.
Oh.
Oh boy.
Leo wasn't just talking to a sleep deprived Casey who was info dumping. He was talking to a Casey who was high out of his damn mind right now. He was talking to a Casey who was having a panic attack all the while being stoned out of his soul.
Oh.
That actually made a lot more sense. A lot.
That explained why he was awake. Why he was swaying from side to side whenever he stood. Why his legs never seemed to work properly. Why he and Raph came home late. Why they snuck back home without anyone noticing. Why he was oversharing. Why Casey was freaking out.
But that realization didn't help the situation in front of him."

Acting had always been something Leo had found interesting. Watching people be able to mimick real emotions, and make it look so real is something he found fascinating. Sadly, due to his obvious lying, he assumed he would be bad at it.
And only as his perfect family began to crumble did he realize that he'd been doing it his entire life.
