“Any particular reason she asked for women specifically?" asked Shayera.
“The strongest of Darkseid’s warriors are known as the Furies,” explained Superman, “They are made up entirely of women. It must be their custom. In any case, we’re in no position to question or defy them. We have to play by their rules.”
“So all we have to do is find the planet’s five strongest women,” shrugged Wally, “Seems easy enough.”
“Indeed,” nodded Shayera, “We have two of them right here.”
“But how do we find the others?” asked Superman.
“Leave it to me,” grinned Diana confidently, “Back on Themyscira, we held large gatherings for the sole purpose of determining the strongest women among us.”
“That’s an excellent idea,” nodded Batman, “I say we invite all potential candidates to the Watchtower.”
“How are you going to decide on the five?” Wally asked Diana.
“Simple,” she said confidently, “We’ll fight for it.”

Courtney let out a triumphant laugh. She was flying!
“You’ve got it!” cheered Jack, “Come back down, I want to show you something else.”
Courtney gently swooped down beside Jack, gracefully hopping off the staff and snatching it out of the air.
“Can I see it for a sec?” requested Jack.
“Sure,” nodded Courtney, handing it back.
“Now turn around,” said Jack.
“Turn around?”
“Yeah, trust me. You’ll see.”
Courtney shrugged, but turned around accordingly. Jack took a step back and held out the staff, touching it to Courtney’s lower back just under her hoodie.
“What are you doing?”
“Lean back onto it,” said Jack.
Courtney leaned her butt back against the end of the staff. The staff hooked under the waistband of Courtney’s leggings before the lurching forward and up into the air, bringing a yelping Courtney with it as it hiked her leggings up to her armpits before dropping her face in the dirt. Jack let out a long cackle.
“You gave me a wedgie!” spat Courtney indignantly, tugging at her butt as she got up from the dirt.
“Yeah, that was the point.”

Pat spat his coffee out over the table as the others yelped and backed away.
“Gross, Pat!” yelled Courtney.
“Your father is Brainwave!?” exclaimed Pat, “Henry King Sr., owner of half the land in Blue Valley, is BRAINWAVE!?!”
“What are you talking about?” demanded Jesse, “Who is Brainwave?”
“He’s a member of the Injustice Society of America,” explained Pat, rushing over to get paper towels to clean up his mess, “We’ve fought him a number of times.”
“Who’s ‘we?’” asked Henry.
“Oh,” realized Pat, freezing in his process of drying the mess, “Crap.”
“Way to go, Pat,” sighed Courtney, “Can we just tell him now?”
“Yeah, go ahead.”
“We’re from the Justice Society of America,” said Courtney proudly, placing her hands on her hips, “I’m Star-Spangled Kid and that’s Jesse Quick.”

Courtney performed a Cosmic Converter Belt-powered leap up and over Cindy, landing directly behind her. Cindy immediately spun around and swiped at Courtney with one of the blades. Courtney quickly stepped back, dodging the attack so only the fabric of her shirt was cut by the blade. Cindy swiped again as Courtney backstepped it. Courtney turned to run and put more distance between the two, but Cindy used the opportunity to hook Courtney’s belt with one of her blades and lift her into the air.
“This belt is where your powers come from, isn’t it?” concluded Cindy.
Cindy then used her other blade to cut away at the rear belt loop, at which point the remaining belt loops tore away and the weight shift caused the belt to unbuckle as Courtney fell face first into the grass. She turned back fearfully to see Cindy standing over her, clutching the belt in one hand.
“It’s the end of the line for you,” said Cindy, tossing the belt aside, “I don’t know what your deal is, but I told you before: don’t impose on my turf.”
