I didn’t anticipate company.” Clearing his throat, he looked down at his hands and more quietly added, “How long were you standing there?”
“Only a moment or two before you spotted me. I was surprised to find you here— and I was even more surprised that you didn’t hear me coming.” Lethica was no longer facing him, but gazing up at the sky, still sitting on the bench with one leg crossed over the other and her hands folded in her lap. “I could not sleep, either.”-

The woman on the black bike keeps speed, pulls ahead of her companion and then up alongside Pyke as he touches down and strangles the accelerator; shooting off into the night as the other bike does the same. The man on the gold bike isn’t one to be left out, punching after them as they shoot across the highway. It’s wild and heady and Pyke lets out the kind of “whoop!” that would get him dragged for poor sportsmanship and cockiness once upon a time. Neck and neck they weave through traffic, flooring it on straight-aways, engines roaring as they take curves.
