The confused expression on Bruce Wayne's face morphed slowly through concern and into delight as Midnighter pulled a bundle of shiny, cheap fabric out of the bag and shook it out. It was a cape trailing down from a stretchy cowl that covered half your face, and when Midnighter pulled it on, two plastic bat ears stood up from his head.

It had really been a curious amount of times that they had run into each other lately, all while Nightwing patrolled alone, or like this time when an anonymous tip had made him check the zone. Deathstroke seemed on these occasions more prone to trade barbs with him and meet each of his attacks with his characteristic strength but without an overtly lethal intent. The warping traversal spits them out clear across the southern edge of the coast, on the quiet side of a rooftop bar sixty miles from Jerez. Dick gets his feet back under him, water-legged, and vomits neatly into a rockrose shrub coming into bloom over the edge of the veranda.

After all, it was hard enough to sell someone on the idea of a vigilante dressed a bat running around Gotham for years without being caught on camera. Adding to that rumors of vampirism, ghosts, cyborgs, time-travel, and the like just make it even harder to believe. Unless the someone you were selling it to happened to be caught by the Batman one day. Then, it was hard to know what to believe.
