Summary
Twisteds are strange copies of the toons they once knew, the most dangerous ones were the toons they DID know. Toons who succumbed to their injuries and didn’t find a med-kit quick enough to stop the infected ichor from embedding itself in their bloodstream.
(Or: Shrimpo takes a fatal blow and transforms into a twisted, Goob is determined he can save him.)

“Maybe… you should sit the next couple floors out, Shrimpy…” He suggested.
“DON’T call me that! And no! I don’t care!” Shrimpo snapped back.
There hadn’t been any healing items that Goob had found first or had been able to purchase. “But you-”
“It’s FINE. I can treat it AFTER THE RUN! I HATE HOW IN MY BUSINESS YOU ALWAYS ARE!”
“... right, sorry?”
“UGH! I HATE TOONS WHO APOLOGIZE!”
“...” Goob didn’t respond to that because his response would've just been another apology.
The elevator opened, next floor.
All the toons but Shrimpo decided to go left, he decided to go right. They ran towards machines, Goob went to look for a band aid. Somewhere on the floor there was a snarl, and then a voice, “NO! NO! GET OFF ME! AHH-” Goob flinched as Shrimpo’s scream was cut short. Oh no. Maybe it wasn’t too late? Goob had to find him and make sure.
He passed Poppy on his way, “Was that Shrimpo? Is he dead?!” She squeaked.
“I don’t know yet, I’m going to see.”
“Be careful!”
“You too!” Goob called as he ran past. He slid around a corner, arms dragging behind him. A smear of ichor on the ground… No Shrimpo though. Such a shame there was a medkit right there, just feet away. Goob grabbed it. It seemed Shrimpo lived because no toon twisted THAT fast!

“Shrimpo! Are you okay? What-” Goob trailed off when Shrimpo whipped around with a whining gurgle. His hands were shaking violently, covered in ichor. Goob’s eyes widened. The white of Shrimpo’s eyes had turned almost entirely red… He was scared. He was twisting rapidly. The bite on his leg must have made it easier for the process to take hold of him. Goob chose to divert his attention away from the source of the ichor on his hands. Dripping, dripping, dripping.Shrimpo let out a cry of terror and reached for Goob. “No- no this isn’t happening- We can fix this. I’m here, Shrimpo. I’m right here, stay- stay still if you can-” Goob’s attempt at reassurance was disrupted by his shaky, cracking voice. “I’ll fix this, I can fix this.”

Even if Shrimpo did die, he would come right back. That Shrimpo would be different though. It had happened before. When Shrimpo comes back he’ll just hate Goob like he hated the rest of the toons. After wrapping him all the way up he heard someone call, “I’M ON LAST!!!” Goob cradled Shrimpo to his chest. He didn’t want to start over.

“But you’re a mess!! Astro we should go back up! This elevator is dirty enough but now even GOOB needs three deep cleanings!!” She exclaimed with genuine distress.Before Astro could answer, Dandy popped out of the elevator’s floor with, “HELLO!! I refreshed my stock and-” His face straightened out and he lowered his arms. “... Ew,” He squinted.
“Yes, ew, Goob thought it was a good idea to package up and deliver a twisted on the expedition with us.” Astro stated bluntly.
“Why??”
“I don’t know.”
Shrimpo stared at the lot of them without a thought behind his eyes, decently content despite the immense amount of pain he should be in.
“... Y’all should dump him on the next floor, then I’ll send ya back up, okay?” Dandy broke the uncomfortable silence.

It felt almost surreal to Goob, how casual everyone was being about this, he frowned. He sat next to Shrimpo and held his ichor drenched hand.“You’re going to go soon…” Goob kept his volume low, “I know you hate me and all… but you are still my friend. This is awful, you know? I thought I was going to get somewhere this time. I thought maybe… you would think of us as friends eventually. And maybe you will… someday. For now, all my progress on this friendship…” He trailed off with a sigh. “This is just awful. It’s always awful. Everytime. I always think I can save you, I always-” He sucked in a breath. “I always think you can make it. But I’m never right, am I?” Goob squeezed twisted Shrimpo’s hand and he swore Shrimpo squeezed it back.
“... Are you talking to the twisted??” Scraps asked.
“...Yeah. He won’t remember. I’m just saying things to… get them out, I guess.”
“Huh… you do you, I guess?” Scraps went over to Poppy

Goob leaned his head on Shrimpo’s shoulder and felt the sinking sadness in his chest almost consume him. For once, Shrimpo didn’t flinch away from the contact, just continued to twitch slightly. The docile crustacean made a soft sound, almost an an attempt at reassurance (More likely Goob was just being delusional).

run infront of Pebble while he distracts? No, Goob shouldn’t think like that. He was supposed to be upbeat and cheery and optimistic! Say “I’m having so much fun!” when they get in the elevator.

Anddddd one more thing! This series is completed and done. I no longer write for DW as I became burnt out on people requesting and asking when stuff would be published. Howeeeeeever, I may post rewrites. I'm grateful you all could come along with me during these 6-7 months! Maybe you'll find me writing for other things someday. But for now, goodbye!
