Summary
Before Richie (the second time), Eddie didn’t like to be touched. Casual touches from coworkers would find him frozen, tense, like cracked glass about to break, fleeting brushes from passersby on the street sent him rushing to him the nearest washroom or into a violent eruption of rage, but worst of all were touches from Myra. Looking back, Eddie knows why her touches gave him the most visceral reactions, but at the time he just thought he didn’t like to be touched, that he simply wasn’t a tactile person.
That all changed after Richie. After Derry. After almost dying. A lot of things changed after all of that.

“You’re probably right.” His smile turned into a smirk. “That is if Bill and Mike don’t beat them to it.”
Richie laughed. “I thought I was the only one who saw what was going on there.”
“Please,” Eddie rolled his eyes, “There was no reason for Mike to start his roadtrip in fucking LA, he just wanted an excuse to take Bill with him.”
Richie frowned slightly. “I’m glad I didn’t accept Mike's offer to be their third wheel.”
Eddie cocked his head to the side. “I thought they didn’t ask you to go with them.”
Shit. That was what Richie told Eddie when he asked why he hadn't left with them. He didn't want to have to explain to Eddie the real reason why he stayed behind.

It's not that Eddie has been trying to lie, exactly. Given his mother's loose relationship with the truth, he's pretty sure lies of omission are not the same thing. It's just that things in his new office have been going really well, and Richie is being Richie about it, and this is maybe the most impulsive thing he's done since he was fifteen.
And there is maybe a tiny, tiny part of him that worries none of his coworkers will ever take him seriously again if they know the whole truth, for several reasons.
It's just, they may have a few risk-related concerns about him getting divorced ten months ago, moving in with Richie eight months ago, and having a clandestine courthouse wedding two months ago.

Eddie’s had this alarming habit recently of staring at Richie’s face while Richie is talking and completely tuning out whatever Richie is saying to instead scrutinize each one of his physical characteristics and decide whether or not he finds them attractive. It’s probably flattering because, on the whole, his judgment is: attractive. But the entire exercise has an air of anger and incredulity that makes it difficult for Richie to feel too smug about it. Eddie thinks Richie’s ears are cute and he wants to bite them, but he’s fucking pissed about it, apparently.
Or, Richie has a side-effect from the deadlights: he can read Eddie’s mind.
