Astarion discovers the healing power of back rubs.
He's his own person... When four simple words spoken to a vile blood merchant send Astarion into a panic spiral, Luka Morrigan (Tav) is there to comfort him. At the Last Light Inn, Astarion explores what it means to want for himself and how touch can be used for something other than coercion.
Astarion can feel Luka’s sweet round eyes searching him. He takes the barest half-step forward, brushes a stray lock of hair behind his ear, then opens his arms wide. Astarion turns to face him.
The dhampir gives a close-lipped, encouraging smile.
“Do you mind?” he asks.
Astarion thinks, swallows, then nods.
Luka closes the distance between them. He moves slowly, as if approaching a startled animal, and gently wraps his arms around Astarion’s back. He slots his chin onto Astarion’s shoulder. They’re nearly the same height—Luka is just barely shorter—and he fits… perfectly. His cheek brushes Astarion’s cheek, and his breath mists Astarion’s ear.

I once saw a post on reddit that Escher (given the minimal information about him in the book) could be from the Wachter family, and I really liked this idea. This is an alternative backstory of Escher, which is accompanied by my vision of both this character and the campaign. It's also intertwined with the backstory of the character I played. This work is written in the format of a series of memories about the childhood, adolescence, and formation of a boy who was sold by his parents to Ravenloft. About how he managed to survive. About what he learned. About his close acquaintance with a dark-haired fanged person. How he got his ring with roses and what it all led to in the end. There might be SPOILERS for the campaign and alternative history of Barovia becoming... Well, Barovia.
Warning: contains a lot of psychological trauma, psychological and physical abuse, substance abuse and heavy angst.

Surrounded by thick mists, they are near impenetrable through conventional means. They are called Domains of Dread. No one knows what takes place within them, though we are sure it is nothing pleasant. It is said that there are dark evils trapped within them." She took a deep breath. "There has only been one Domain anyone has ever got out of. It is the oldest Domain, and it is where all the stories have come from. One of its defining features that always gets repeated is the lack of sunlight. Can you feel it?" She asked the others. "How the light doesn't warm your skin? How the colour is just a shade or two off? This place is horrifying. No Deities can reach here, I can barely feel my Queen." Her eyes begin to water, and she resolutely wipes them dry before tears can form. "I used to remember the name of this place, though it is eluding me right now. That doesn't matter though, what matters is that we need to find a way out of here."

While camping in a former temple of Selûne that's been overrun by goblins, Astarion catches Luka Morrigan (Tav) sneaking away to commune with Abdirak, a disciple of the Goddess of Pain. Perhaps this dhampir from Barovia is not such a saint after all?
“Our Mistress teaches us that pain is an intimate thing,” Abdirak explains, “and in embracing her love, a deeper connection forms between minister and supplicant. Bonds tempered in the fires of pain are impossible to break.”
That is precisely what Astarion must avoid. He doesn’t want to bond with Luka, he just wants to seduce the boy. And yet, Astarion can’t deny the power he feels while clutching the whip. Is this really any different than Luka offering over his sweet, nectarine blood for Astarion’s nourishment? If this precious castle-born dhampir is so insistent on debasing himself, then is there anyone better than Astarion to show him exactly what that feels like?

A tie-in story for Into Unmapped Darkness, a Found Family fic set in a post-Strahd Barovia, where Doru and Ismark work together with a sunshiny cleric to turn Castle Ravenloft into a rehab center for the undead.
In which Doru copes with parental anxiety by becoming a bat.
Everyone turns at once to look upward. High-pitched squeaking draws Ismark’s attention to a black mass zooming around the dome.
Is that a—a bat?
Ismark’s stomach sinks. “Please tell me that’s not…”
The little projectile comes hurtling toward him. Ismark drops his books and throws his hands up. A gust of wind ruffles his hair as an oddly excitable chirp pierces his ear.
“Hells,” he grunts, righting himself. “What’s going on?”
Escher gives a dry chuckle before explaining, “Your dearly beloved said he wanted to be a bat.”

Hafisa, the paladin dhampir of the group, suffers from her newly acquired vampire nature, but remembers almost nothing from her past. Or what exectly happened before she met her companions on the Svalich Road.
She knows that she entered Barovia with a squad of paladins.
That she joined Mordenkainen's rebellion.
That she saw Strad kill every one of those who came with her.
That after the battle, she woke up with a heart that did not beat and a pair of sharp fangs in her mouth.
She knows that Strad is responsible for everything and wishes for his destruction at all costs.But perhaps some memories are buried in Ravenloft for a reason.
