Summary
Wylan’s house is crowded, so when Kaz asks to stand a little closer to the edge of the throng, Nikolai immediately agrees.
They’re standing there, not touching, when someone that Nikolai knows in passing comes nearer to them than anyone else.
Kaz goes rigid. Nikolai assumes it’s because the possibility that someone will touch him just got higher. Maybe they shouldn’t have come.
Kaz swallows audibly.Or,
Nikolai hears what Rojakke says about Kaz, but he doesn’t fully understand the significance of it until he has to pull Kaz out of the entire situation to calm down. Then he realizes there is something else going on here.

Kaz and Nikolai start dating at the end of the 1st story. There should be references of where each story is on the timeline in each, but it should go like this:
1: the day Kaz and Rojakke officially break up/the day Kaz and Nikolai officially get together
2: about 3 weeks after Kaz and Rojakke break up/Kaz and Nikolai get together
3 & 4: about 3 months after Kaz and Rojakke break up/Kaz and Nikolai get together

Summary
When he wakes up, Kaz’s hand is still in his and his shoulder aches from holding his arm up for a couple hours.
He gets up then, only to see Kaz’s face scrunched up. He’s panting again.
Nikolai lets go of his hand, not wanting to cause any more issues with touch for him when he can’t fully consent to it anyway, but Kaz’s hand flails around blindly for it anyway. He grabs it again gently, holding it while he speaks in a low, calm voice. “Kaz. You’re just dreaming. Wake up. Hey. You’re okay. Just open your eyes.”
Kaz is saying something to himself. Nikolai can’t really hear him, until he hears him very clearly say, “If he’s not safe, who is?”Or,
Nikolai tries to help Kaz understand the Rojakke problem while the Rojakke problem gets subtly worse.
