“Then how about we have a holiday party?” She offers. Looking around the common area, she can already see it. Lights strung up around the bar, gingerbread houses on the counter, a big holiday feast on the table. The perfect tree in the living room, all adorned with lights and garlands and ornaments, presents underneath. “Take it into our own hands. Make our own good holiday experiences.”

After the collapse of Project Insight, Bucky Barnes is at a loss for what to do with the unfamiliar freedom of choice. When he's referred to an equine assisted therapy program, he has no expectations that living a Barbie Horse Adventure will do him any good. But when he meets the program director, Sam Wilson, he thinks that maybe he judged things too quickly. Maybe a little peace, a sense of purpose, and a handsome cowboy will what he's been missing.
Of course, Bucky and Sam should both know that you can't outrun your past forever. It won't be long before it's knocking at their door, threatening the peace that both of them are trying so hard to hang onto.

You want to reach for him, want to do as much as let your hand brush against his in comfort, it’s almost a reflex, one that you have been fighting to repress those past few days, and today is no exception. Your hand folds back onto itself and Bob notices, his heart clenching with the ache of knowing he’s doing this to himself. At least it’s a bit less painful when he reminds himself he’s only doing it to protect you, from him somehow.
