    Natasha is excited to be teaming up with Double for the first time. She owes a lot to him, with the effort he went to to get her family safe. And he’s been a consistent ally to her uncle. Working with him feels like a natural and important next step now that she’s Steel. And maybe, she can wiggle some information out of him about who he is.

    Sue her, she’s been curious. Uncle John clearly knows quite a bit about the man behind the goggles, and she’d like to know too. She’d spent a full round trip on a plane talking to him once and learned not a single personal detail. Hell, the only reason she knew his name was Miles is that Uncle John had referred to him as such once in front of her.

    So yes, she has questions, but she’s going to be a professional about this team-up because she is Steel now, and she has a legacy to live up to.

    Moments like this were some of John Henry’s favorite parts of being a superhero. Armor and hammer repair didn’t sound that exciting, true, but that was exactly why he loved it so much. The mundaneness of it was soothing. They were just working with their hands, same as always. And making sure that their equipment was in tip-top shape could make a huge difference in the field.

    He especially loved doing maintenance with Natasha.

    Nat had taken Kara up to the Steelworks roof to watch the clouds. As first dates went it was probably pretty lame. Then again, Nat hadn't had much time to plan this – she'd blurted out "will you go on a date with me?" to Kara after she smashed Toyman into the pavement in a blaze of fury. By some miracle Kara had accepted, flustered but happy, and suggested turning their usual post-battle meal into a date. Nat had agreed to that, flummoxed that Kara had accepted in the first place, and immediately panicked about how to make it special.
    So yeah, Natasha had thrown together this picnic in like thirty minutes with Uncle John's leftover roast beef into sandwiches (seasoned using Grandma Bess’s recipe, of course) and a quilt gifted from Martha Kent as the blanket. Kara kept shooting her dazzling grins and soft glances, so Natasha was tentatively marking this as a win.

    Kon shuffled nervously. “It’s just with, y’know, Kryptonian abilities, invulnerability, yadda yadda, it’s hard to get one. Can’t exactly march into a tattoo shop and break all their equipment trying to get a piercing.”

    “Yeah, that wouldn’t be ideal.” Natasha chuckled.

    “And it would have to be someone I really trust.”

    “Obviously.”

    “I’m glad you like it, Nat.” Kal said with a bittersweet smile. This wasn’t exactly easy for him, sharing what he had left of his planet, John Henry realized. But he was doing it anyway, because he cared about them and he cared about Krypton’s history, and he wanted to share it.
